Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3 years and 8 months old | 12 lbs
My cat Pocky (healthy, 4 yrs old) has had frequent diarrhea all day and yesterday. It dribbles and seems to just fall out of her and then she seems surprised and licks it up. She acts normal but tonight she seems sick, she is lethargic, and her third eyelids are showing. She has brought me 3 mice this week, I'm concerned she might have eaten a poisoned one or got a disease. I am going to call the vet first thing in the morning. Is this an emergency? Any advice or wisdom? Thanks, kati

I am so sorry Pocky is feeling so under the weather tonight. If she is still eating, breathing normally, and not vomiting I think you can wait to see her veterinarian until the morning. I am glad you are bringing her in though, as they can get pretty dehydrated from that kind of diarrhea. If you are able to collect a stool sample to bring in to your appointment , they may want to test it for intestinal parasites. And they definitely will be able to prescribe medication to help with that kind of diarrhea. In the meantime you may want to offer her some very bland food rather than her normal diet if you are able. Examples include plain chicken or turkey baby food or Hills i/d diet. And obviously, do your best to prevent her from licking the diarrhea. If she starts vomiting tonight , becomes more lethargic or is breathing faster than normal than I would have an emergency vet evaluate her ASAP. I hope she recovers very quickly.
