My dog's dew claw is infected and falling off. What can I do now?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 10 months old

My dog came in today and I noticed he was babying his front left foot. I noticed his dew claw I think it is ..is falling off....infected and swelled ..anything I can do asap until I can get him to vet?

You can trim back the nail then soak the paw in a warm antibacterial solution for five minutes. That will help clean the area and reduce the infection. This does look painful so I would limit the exercise and if he’s licking it use a cone to prevent licking. The licking will increase the pain and inflammation. I would go in for an exam tomorrow if you can. They will probably put him on oral antibiotics and pain medication.
