Typical signs of diabetes are : drinking more water than usual, and correspondingly urinating more, obesity at first, then loss of weight, sweet tasting urine (if you dare taste it), general malaise, sometimes peripheral neuropathy, such as walking near or on the haunches. Some animals also exhibit more hunger than usual, others eat less. The best way to find out whether your dog is diabetic, is to take him to your vet for an exam. The vet will take a history from you and then check your dog;s urine for glucose and, if positive, check her blood for blood glucose.
