My kitten's eye is swollen, blinking, and has gunk. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 22 days old | 4 lbs

I came home from work today and Tangie’s eye was swollen. I have always noticed that she blinked that eye a bit more since I had her, almost looking as if she is winking. Some buildup is also starting to occur on her lens and I’ve been rubbing it starting from the corner of her eye to remove buildup. She is only about 4 months and I did recently take her to a spat and neuter clinic for shots. Please let me know you opinion!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. I highly recommend that you have Tangie evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!
