Puppy ate Motrin (ibuprofen). What should I do and what to watch for?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 3 years and 5 months old | 55 lbs

I believe about an hour ago my puppy got a hold of 1 200mg Motrin. No vomiting. Drinking and eating normal. What should I do? What do I need to watch for?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jemma. She should see an emergency veterinarian as ibuprofen can be very toxic in dogs. It tends to cause kidney damage. So even if she is not acting sick, it could be harming her. If the exposure was recent enough, they may recommend inducing vomiting or there may be supportive measures taken to help her. I hope this information helps!
