My dog is losing hair after fleas. How can I treat it and regrow fur?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 8 months and 13 days old | 60 lbs

My 8month old girls have been loosing hair recently they never had fleas and got a few recently gladly I was able to treat them and remove them. But I don’t know what to do next to regrow the hair and treat this. What might this be? They are updated on all their shots. But unfortunately I have no money for a vet at the moment. What can I do? Please help! Also they were eating pedigree and I’ve changed the food to Science Hills. Currently using hydrocortisone lotion and shampoo.

Thank you for submitting your question. It is possible their skin issues are still related to the fleas. Be sure to vacuum daily and wash all of their bedding in hot water frequently. They need to be on a veterinary grade flea and tick prevention. Bathe them weekly with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula. If the skin issue does not resolve, then they will need to see a veterinarian for further testing. I hope this information helps!
