My dog's injured eye is dead. Can vitamins or holistic care help?

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

My 7lb. poodle injured her right eye. The damage looks like a scratch. Her right eye is/was being treated with BNPH Antibiotic Eye w HC 3.5g. Her eye appeared dirty so I kept washing it and applying the ointment. The eye began to atrophy. The same Vet that prescribed the ointment, now says that Emma’s right eye is dead. Is there anything that can be done to revive it? Holistic or otherwise? What about vitamins that can help strengthen the eye?

Unfortunately if Emma's eye has atrophied and the vet says its dead, there is nothing that can be done to help revive it. The eye is a very delicate structure, and if it's severely diseased, there are not vitamins or supplements that will bring back the eye. Dogs can live normal lives with one eye, however, so you do not need to be worried about her quality of life. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you :-(

Poor Stone! You've done exactly the right thing by having him seen by the vet for his corneal infection. Unfortunately, there are no other treatments you can give him to supplement what the vet has already prescribed. The medications given by your vet are the scientifically proven treatments for his corneal infection, and there are no proven supplements that help with an eye infection in a dog. In addition, you can accidentally do harm to Stone by supplementing him with vitamins and herbs. Too many vitamins are detrimental to a dog's health and can cause toxicosis, while certain herbs are toxic to dogs. Having Stone seen by a vet and giving him the drugs as prescribed is the best thing you can do to help his eye heal :-)

My dog has dry eyes. My vet prescribed hialid eyedrops. I see improvement in his eyes. Is there any oral supplements which could aid his dry eyes?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Sky. Unfortunately, there are no oral supplements for dry eye. The only treatment is the topical application of eye drops to lubricate the surface of the eyes. If the eyes are not responding, then drops to decrease the body's immune response may be required. Do not allow him to paw at his eyes as he could cause damage. I hope this information helps!

Do dog vitamins for skin and allergies really work? If so, which ones do you recommend? Do dog eye drops work for cloudy eyes as well? Which one would help a small cataract like appearance in her left eye.
Supplements, such as Omega 3 fatty acids (Welactin is one example), can be beneficial to maintain skin health if Daisy has allergies. They are not a magic cure-all, but when used in conjunction with other management strategies for allergy triggers (diet changes, flea presentation, antihistamines, allergy immunotherapy injections, etc.), can be helpful in many dogs. There are no eye drops that will improve cataracts or age-related changes (lenticular sclerosis). Eye cloudiness can also be caused by glaucoma, corneal ulcers, among other inflammatory conditions. Consider having her eyes evaluated by a vet to determine the cause of the cloudiness so that it can be managed.

I am so very sorry to hear about the fire and the loss of your pets. In terms of her eyes, without knowing the actual diagnosis of what is going on with them we cannot really make a recommendation. I would recommend having her vet examine the eyes if they have not already. Some damage unfortunately is permanent, but without knowing the issue we cannot say. There is not likely to be an over the counter product that is going to make a change though, so the vet visit is truly your best option. If an opthalmologist has evaluated Bella and reports that there is nothing to be done, then I suspect that Bella has something wrong with her retinas. My dog has progressive retinal atrophy and has been blind for a couple of years. I went to 2 opthalmologists just to make sure of the diagnosis, so you can certainly get another opinion from another ophthalmologist just to be sure. Unfortunately, we do not have any treatment for diseases of the retina, so we are left with a blind dog. Fortunately, blind dogs do great and can have a great quality of life. Unfortunately no, there isn't anything you can do at home to treat Molly's swollen eye, she has to see a vet. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take her into a vet as soon as possible. Best of luck.

Unofrtunately there is no preventive treatment. I would not worry at this time, just heed your vet's advice and once a week look into her eye. If the spot enlarges, have it rechecked by your vet. There is nothing you need to do. Let her be a dog and be happy. It is just a matter of monitoring.

If you can get to another vet more quickly, or even an emergency vet that would be best. Clouding of the eye may be due to an infection, illness or injury and waiting to have it treated could lead to a worsening of symptoms or even loss of the eye. Attempting to treat at home may worsen the problem or cause excessive irritation. It is best to seek veterinary care ASAP.

The best thing to do would have Kiya examined by a vet to determine if the piece of skin needs to be reattached or if she needs sutures to help with proper healing. Depending on how close the wound is the eyelid, sometimes leaving it to heal on its own can lead to scar tissue formation that may affect her ability to close the eye normally. There aren't any OTC eye drops that will help in this situation. Prescription antibiotics may be indicated based on the vet's exam.

That is likely to be due to a moderate to severe conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.
