Can I give my dog Loratadine for spring allergies and what's the dose?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 12 lbs

Rey has some allergies now that spring is coming around, she already has some skin allergies that bother her year round (she's been on Prednisone and Benadryl a few times for allergies when her face gets puffy) so we were wondering if we could give her Loratadine 10mg tabs and what the dosage would be (she's about 12 pounds) to see if it helps her as the seasons change. She has no other issues other than allergies

Unfortunately, by law it is illegal for the experts at Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to give the dose information for any drug, including OTC drugs, without seeing the animal in person first. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for Rey. You will need to speak to her vet to see if it's safe to give her the Loratadine.
