Can my dog eat a treat after medicine with an eating restriction?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 9 months old | 66 lbs

Hey, Pharah has been on Sporimune treatment for 3 or 4 months now. 5 days a week. Instructions say she can't eat 2 hours before and after her dose. Can she have a small dog snack right after medicine? She's really starting to hate Sporimune so maybe snack after would make her feel better. Thanks!

I would give her the medication as instructed, and do not give Pharah a snack after her dose. It's very important to follow any medication as prescribed, or it won't work as needed. I hope this helps!

If it is temporary (a week or less), its ok for your dog to eat primarily chicken breast or tuna. Try to feed her a little bit of rice mixed with it as well. If she needs to be on medication long term, it would be better to try to formulate a well balanced long term diet that she will eat. This question really depends on what medicaiton she is getting daily. Yes it is true that some pets take time to adjust but she should still be energetic and relatively normal otherwise. She also should be receptive to taking yummy irrresistible treats. I would recommend offering her some boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to see if you can coax her to eat a full meal. Once she eats you should be able to resume her medicaiton. Also please keep in mind that some medicaitons can cause lack of appetite as a side effect so it is important to have her re-evaluated by your local vet if she is having such a reaction. She may even need to be placed on a different medicaiton that her body will agree with. If you need to discuss her case more in detail feel free to request a consultation at your convenience. Should I give my dog his medicine before or after he eats? Its antibiotics for infected skin. I attached two pics of what medicine they gave us.
You want to make sure your pet eats first before giving antibiotics or it can cause an upset stomach, so it’s best tot give it after. You can try hiding it in a small amount of bread or sandwich meat or cheese. I hope this helps and thanks for visiting Boop by Petco! Take care.

I am afraid, that is not ok, as giving food (treats) right after administering omeprazole is the same as giving food before administering it. If she likes ice cubes you can give her an ice cube to play with.

Oh that's not good that Emma isn't taking her medications! It's quite important that she has these medications tonight, and you may need to stick it down the back of her throat to get her to take it. You can try putting it in some peanut butter, which will stick her in mouth. Thank you for your question regarding Snowball. Couple things that would be nice to know such as what is the medicine and how long are you suppose to give it orally. Not knowing that, giving the medicine with a small treat or food is generally fine as long as it doesn't contribute to more diarrhea. The medicine should work fine as long as the full dose is given at the appropriate time intervals. Please feel free to set up a consultation me to discuss further. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Pet Coach. All of those medications would be ideal to be given as soon as you can rather then waiting until tonight to "try again". If she was due for all three this morning, I would recommend to try again mid-day. Tramadol can be given every 6-8hours to make her comfortable so try to get that into her as soon as you can. Prednisone and clavamox should be given with food or directly after a meal. I would recommend to feed her some lunch and then try to give those meds again after the meal. Maybe with a treat, cheese, pill pocket. If you are able to get either one of those meds into her this afternoon, then skip the evening dose and resume in early morning. The sooner the better.
