My ferret has diarrhea after eating cat food. What should I do?

It can be the wet food but it could also be other things. It sounds as Fierros is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Since your ferret has been having abnormal stool for quite some time now I would recommend taking him to the vet to be examined and having a fecal sample checked. Your ferret may have parasites, irritable/inflammatory bowel disease, a forgein body or some other issue going on. Continue to feed him a bland diet until you can get him checked out. If this is from your ferret that was there before these two came it may be due to stress from the new arrivals. As long as he's eating, drinking and acting normally I would give him a day or two to see if this resolves. Also checking a fecal sample for parasites is recommended. If the diarrhea worsens or he seems lethargic or sick please take him in for an exam and treatment. They will make sure he's not dehydrated and give him medication to control the diarrhea. Hi, A pic of the feces would have been useful. In any case, unless it is really watery or if they become lethargic, I wouldn't be too worried. Would also not give any of the things mentioned above. If at all, you could try the good old rice trick (mixing some with their food). Give it a few more days.

It could be normal to have diarrhea after a food change but usually the diarrhea happens pretty soon after the new food is started and not 2 months later. I suggest you get Bella a probiotic and feed her that for a few weeks. Thanks for reaching out and including a photo. This appears to be a common clinical sign of a viral diarrhea common viral enteritis (ECE). It is often complicated with secondary bacterial infections. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Antibiotics and fluids (if dehydrated) are the minimum, but if severe might necessitate hospitalization with an IV catheter. This is contagious to other ferrets. Good luck.

Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! My first thought here is that Basil should likely be checked for intestinal parasites, especially things like coccidia. Irritable bowel disease and things like GI lymphoma are also possible but further down in the rule out list (list of potential diagnoses). These would be tested for if you fecal test for parasites were to come back completely normal. If you have changed her food, or she has developed a food allergy-this can also affect her stool. I always recommend that ferrets with diarrhea be seen by your vet-they can get very dehydrated very quickly. I am sorry honey nut is not feeling well. I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian tomorrow. Ferrets can get severe gastric upset but also viruses that can cause diarrhea. Honey nut might need some basic bloodwork or even x-rays to determine the cause of honey nuts illness. Continue with the hydration until tomorrow.
