My dog has a paw sore. Could it be a lick granuloma? How to treat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed

Hey so I had my dog in a few weeks ago for a full check up and blood work and she’s healthy but she did have a hot spot problem and itching and has sores but that’s finally gotten way better. However she does have this sore on her paw and it’s a ball I’m not sure if that’s the sore itself making it like that or what lol if you can help it would be most appreciated and how I should treat this.

It could be a lick granuloma. This develops with chronic licking. If she had a hot spot or was itchy, excessive licking may have caused it. Place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent licking. If the lesion is a granuloma, it should begin to resolve within the week. Some dogs may need antibiotics or steroids to treat. Severe cases may require injections of steroids into the lesion itself. Have her examined by your veterinarian for confirmation.
