Dog limped after a fall, then stopped. Is he hurt or fractured?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 27 days old | 56 lbs

My 9mo old blue nose pitbull jumped off couch but I think he slipped on the pillow. He did yelp and I massaged his back right leg. He got up and was limping. I gave him 50mg of carprofen. He stopped limping after a few minutes. How do I know if he is still hurt or has a fracture?

Poor guy. If he has a fracture he would certainly still be limping and yelping when you touch the area. Also there would be swelling at the injury site. Best case scenario is that he strained a muscle and will slowly improve over the next few days to a week. Continue to implement limited activity with Leo and massage the area daily. I hope that Leo's injury turns out to be minor and that he heals fully soon! Best wishes and take care.
