My cat goes ballistic in the carrier. How do I get him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Bobtail Shorthair | Male | neutered | 9 lbs

Cant get my cat into cat carrier box as he goes ballistic as soon as I lift him to put him in. He needs to get a shot from vet. He is a rescue cat and pretty calm otherwise. Any suggestions?

Hello, I'd recommend making the cat carrier a positive experience over time. You can do this by keeping the carrier out in the open and using treats and toys to reward Cotton for being near or inside the carrier. This does take time, practice, and patience. Call your vet to discuss possible sedation for being able to put him in a carrier for his vaccines this year. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
