Why is my kitten vomiting bile, not eating, and low energy suddenly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 months old | 8 lbs

Hi, my kitten has had a vomit the day before last and seemed a bit low in energy that day. Yesterday she was back to her normal self, quite alert and energetic. However today she hasn’t eaten much. She had a medium vomit earlier today that was quite mushy but just recently she vomited again which appeared to be bile. She is up to date in her vaccinations and we have not changed her food at all.

Hello, Sorry to hear that Olivia has been vomiting. Vomiting in cats can be a sign of infectious disease or intestinal obstructions. I worry when cats are acting both lethargic and have a decreased appetite. If she is prone to eating string or toys, I'd be more concerned about a possible surgical obstruction. I'd recommend taking her to her veterinarian. They can guide you best after a physical exam and likely x-rays. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
