Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Duffy! Ear infections can be from allergies or from extra moisture in the ear. They are caused by an overgrowth of yeast and/or bacteria. Ear infections are treated by flushing out the extra wax with an ear cleaner and by using medicated drops specific for the type of infection the dog has. If the ears are very inflamed and painful then I prescribe a course of steroids. Duffy should see your Vet for an exam, ear cytology (smear of wax on a slide to look for the cause) and to have medications prescribed. I hope this helps and I wish Duffy the best!
