Is it normal for a puppy to be tired and not eat after vaccines?

We just took Boots 8 wks old to get his first exam, and he got a few vacancies and now he is tired/sleepy can barely keep his eyes open and barely eating. Is this normal for the day of a vaccination

Boots is so cute!!! He's had a pretty stressful day with going to the vet, getting an exam, and getting vaccines. You can see the kitten being very tired and not eating as much after all of this. He should be back to normal within 24 hours, so I wound't be too concerned just yet. If he is still super tired and not eating much 24 hours after the vaccines, then I would be concerned and have him seen by a vet immediately. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

My puppy was vaccined with the 8 in 1 today. Since the vaccination, he is so tired and cries when he gets carried..is that normal?
It's normal for puppies to be more tired than normal for a couple of days after getting a vaccine, just like human kids. They may also be sore when petted or picked up, and can even run a low grade fever. This is usually not a cause for concern - most pups are back to normal within a few days. Signs of a more serious problem would include repeated episodes of vomiting, not eating, facial swelling, or hives (bumps all over the body). These can be signs of an allergic reaction to the vaccine, so if you see any of these issues, take your pup back to the vet right away to be checked.

Hi there! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Lethargy, fever and inappetence can occur 24-48 hours post-vaccination. This is not uncommon. If it has been longer than this, it is likely unrelated to the vaccines that a good reason to have Saski evaluated by your veterinarian to ensure that there is not something else going on. Good luck! My cat had an FVRCP booster shot yesterday and has been very slow to walk, not eating, and sleeping since he received it. He seemed fine for about 5 hours after the shot.
Sometimes animals become more lethargic after a vaccination and this typically does not last for more than 24 hours. If you think Havoc is experiencing difficulty breathing, is vomiting or is experiencing hives on the skin, then take him in immediately as he may be experiencing a vaccine reaction. However, if he is just slower than usual and doesn't want to eat right now, I would give it 24 hours after the vaccine has been given and if the symptoms do not resolve, take him back to the veterinarian to be examined to ensure everything is ok. If Kane just recently had his first series of vaccinations, this could be an explanation as to why he is not moving around as much. If he is still eating and fine otherwise, I would keep an eye on him for another 24 hours. Very sleepy pup after shots on previous say
Puppy's getting sleepy after their shots is a normal reaction to vaccinations. They can also have a low grade fever and/or one bout of vomiting/diarrhea normally that are no cause for concern. The concern arises when your pet is severely lethargic, not eating, non-responsive, pale gums, or excessive vomiting/diarrhea. If you notice any of these symptoms then it is best to take puppy to a vet asap for immediate care, because a mores serious vaccine reaction is occurring at that point.

Hi my kitten (Blu) just got his first set of shots today. Now that’s he has gotten him all he wants to do is sleep and whines whenever we move him in the slightest. It’s been more than 3 hours now. Should I be concerned?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Possible side effects after vaccines include pain at the injection site, lethargy, inappetence and general discomfort. This should subside within 1-2 days. What a sweet guy! I suspect he may just be feeling a bit punky from his vaccines. Since he's still eating some of his dry food, and he seemed to be acting normally last night (it sounds like you are describing that the lethargy is improving), I think it reasonable to give him a couple of more days. If he still isn't back to himself by the end of the week, take him to your vet. If he is declining at all (becoming less active, vomiting, having diarrhea, completely anorexic, any change in breathing) take him in ASAP. Thank you for asking Boop by Petco!

Hi Shawn! You can see some lethargy up to 48 hours after a cat gets it's vaccines, and this is normal. It is concerning that Bugsy Malone (love his name!) is eating less, but hopefully he is eating something. Try to tempt him to eat with some boiled white meat chicken (no bones), or by soaking his dry food in tuna juice. The bumps will be localized reactions to the vaccines, and should disappear in a few weeks. If he is still lethargic and eating less tomorrow, then I would take him back into the vet for an exam. My cat has not eaten for 24 hours after her vaccinations
Some poor appetite can be considered normal after vaccinations. Vaccines stimulate the immune system to help protect your pet from common diseases they could be exposed to. Vaccines can sometimes cause minor changes in appetite or behavior. Usually I tell clients some decrease in appetite and decreased activity can be normal for 24 hours but for any issues lasting more than 24 hours they should call me ASAP. Some of the major issues (although rare) associated with vaccine reactions are trouble breathing and anaphylactic shock. If you notice any trouble breathing, severe lethargy or swelling of the face or at the vaccine site you should contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. If the poor appetite is still an issue after 24 hours or If any other issues are going on contact your veterinarian ASAP.
