My newborn puppies aren't crying. Is this quiet behavior normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 4 days old

My girl gave birth 4 days ago to 2 healthy puppies. I went to the vet as soon as she was finished to have them all checked and they were fine. This is my first time being around a litter so I'm worried. Since they have been home, I have not heard them cry once. They are eating and sleeping all the time. Is it normal for them not to cry at all?

It is quite normal for them not to cry if they are happy and satisfied (not hungry) and well taken care of by their mummy. Puppies will usually only cry when they are unhappy, hungry, cold, or miss their mommy. So it sounds like everything is perfect!
