Is my old hamster's thinning fur a sign of aging or illness?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Exotic | Unknown - Exotic | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 10 months old

hi my hamster fluffy is around a year and ten months (maybe a little older i’m not sure how old he is exactly cuz he came from a pet store but i got him on june 6, 2016) and i’ve noticed that his fur looks different, like it’s thinning around the right side of his mouth and a side of his back and i can kinda see his skin i’m worried but i’ve also read that it’s a natural sign of aging? he runs, walks, eats, drinks, sleeps and cleans his fur normally like always.

Yes , just like in older men, the hair starts to thin out, It is indeed a sign of old age. As long as he is bright, eats, drinks, cleans himself and is not itching, he is fine. Make sure you give him good quality food and also some greens once in a while.
