I have a feral cat who comes to eat twice a day. He will not allow anyone to get close to him. He started coming a year ago, looked then to be about a year old. Last summer, he began to squint with one eye, and a month or so later, the other eye. There was no discharge that I could see, but he has never had his eyes wide open again. I have tried to trap him many times, but he is trap smart, and I worry about his eyes. TNR will have him checked out if I can catch him. what should I do?

Unfortunately there is very little to do without being able to catch him. A lot of feral cats have viruses in their systems which flare up again and again. A few of these effect the eyes and can cause permanent damage. All you can do is attempt to catch him in the trap as he will likely need to be sedated to be examined and treated. If you are struggling with the trapping you could contact a local shelter to see if they can offer any assistance. You can only do your best and I understand that you are so concerned about him, but it's not your fault that he is so difficult to catch.
