Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | 9 months and 28 days old | 9.039 lbs

My cat recently had a wound at the base of his spine stitched 10 days ago. The stitches have now fell apart and there is a raw gaping wound, with slight seepage.

I am sorry to hear that TJ has this going on. I am worried that the wound is infected. Stitches often break down if there is an infection. I would highly encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible. In the meantime you can use a warm water and Epsom salts compress to keep the area clean. The wound may need to be cultured and debrided now and perhaps left open to heal. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
