My new puppy eats adult food. Should I switch to puppy food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, we are adopting a 14 week old puppy and the foster currently is feeding the puppy regular dog food. Should we buy the same dog food or gradually change him to a puppy food?

You will need to transition the food over about a week so you will need a small supply of the current dog food the puppy is eating. Yes, you should feed your new puppy an appropriate puppy food until he is about 1 year old (depending on his adult size). I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
