My dog's tick bite is irritated. Can I treat it at home or see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 11 months old | 165 lbs

I just pulled a deer tick off of my dog (the head came out too) but the spot looks very irritated. What can I do to treat it at home? Does it look infected? Do I need to schedule a vet visit?

It should heal up OK at home. You can use this wound spray on it. If after 4-5 days it does not look a lot better then Scout should be examined by your vet. ( https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/vetericyn-plus-wound-and-skin-care-for-dogs )
