My dog has a red, oozing face infection with hair loss. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 4 months old

Ozzy has recently had dermititis on his testicles. Vet prescribed Bayroxin, Relaxozyme and Allergia. It healed completely but now there's a sudden infection/allergy on his face below the ears, it's red, pus oozes now and then. There is hair loss as well.

This looks like a hotspot (moist dermatitis). You would need to have him seen by your veterinarian for confirmation. Treatment for hotspots typically involves clipping the area and scrubbing it lightly. Topical and/or systemic antibiotics may be indicated. Your vet may also dispense a steroid for inflammation and itching. You will need to place an e-collar (cone) on Ozzy to prevent scratching or rubbing until the area has healed.
