Dog nose scratch got worse after scabbing. Is it serious or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd - miniature | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 9 months old | 30 lbs

I’m concerned about my pup, he has a scratch on his nose and I just want to make sure it’s nothing serious. It’s been two days since I noticed it and it was scabbing yesterday but I think he scratched it and made it worse.

Superficial wounds will often heal without treatment but Link will need to wear an elizabethan collar to protect the area from rubbing or scratching. If it is not improved within a week or if it gets worse at any point, have him examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
