My dog has diarrhea with blood. Is it serious and what should I do?

Hi there, diarrhea started yesterday morning. I was stupid and fed him like normal instead of giving him rice which I'm sure didn't help. This morning, I found dried diarrhea (suspect it was middle of the night) and then some fresh, watery blood. He's since produced a combo of diarrhea and a tiny bit of more solid stool. Is tinged red, could be bloody? I recently almost lost my other dog to HGE so I'm a bit gun-shy but this doesn't seem to be the same.

This could be due to a colitis, which, if no other signs are present, could be self limiting and resolving just with a dietary change. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
