My cat has a bald spot on her neck. What's causing the hair loss?

We just noticed our 7 yr old indoor cat has a spot on the right side of her neck with no fur. See photo. What could this be? Pet's info: Cat | Turkish Van | Female | 7 years and 7 months old | 8 lbs

This looks more like a bacterial infection of the skin. But it could also be a mite problem. It will need to be tested to be sure. I would recommend scheduling an appt with your vet soon to get this looked at. Until you can get her seen its best to just clean the area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to antiseptically cleanse the area. Best of luck with your pet Lily moving forward.
