My dog ate tea bags. What are the signs of caffeine toxicity?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | 8 years and 7 months old | 75 lbs

My soon to be 8 year old pit mix that is around 70-80lbs tore into some organic Tzao Chai tea bags. I just got off work and I don’t see any vomit any where and I just walked him, seemed normal and poop was solid as usual. Are there certain symptoms I should be looking for if he’s not okay?

Tea has caffeine, so you'd watch out for signs of caffeine toxicity which include restlessness, agitation, hyperactivity, vomiting, panting, tremors, and seizures. If you see any of those signs, take Bruno into a vet immediately. Typically signs of caffeine toxicity occur 30-60 minutes after ingestion, so if he is still fine after a few hours, you are in the clear. I hope this helps!
