My puppy won't eat after Giardia treatment. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 28 days old | 7 lbs

My pup will be 6 months in 3 days. He finished his antibiotics as the vet stated giardia was found in his fecal test. I was told to bring a fecal sample on sept 7th so we won’t know if he’s been parasite free. I’ve only had him for 1 month so I am still getting to know him. Could this parasite potentially effect his appetite? Nature balance instructed 1.5 cups TID. Now I’ve cut back to 1 cup BID as instructed by the vet & with that it’s still been a hassle for him to eat. any suggestions?

2 cups per day sounds like a lot of food for a 7 pound puppy! My 16 pound dog gets 2 cups per day. As long as Kai is growing as expected and isn't emaciated, I suspect he is getting enough nutrition. But, yes, Giardia can affect their appetite.
