Why is my 4-month-old puppy still peeing overnight during potty training?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 10 days old | 20 lbs

My puppy is almost 4 months and we are potty training her. But for some reason over night she can’t hold her pee. Why is that?

What a cute pup! You don't mention how frequently she is peeing in your question. If you feel like she is peeing very often and cannot hold her pee for several hours, then I would recommend an examination by a veterinarian to ensure that there isn't a medical reason for her inability to hold her urine. If there is no medical problem, or if she is able to hold her urine most of the night but the issue is she is still pottying in the house when she is going, then I would recommend Dr. Yin's guide to pottytraining which you can download at : https://drsophiayin.com/blog/entry/a_foolproof_potty-training_plan/
