Why is my 9-week-old puppy peeing in his crate despite potty breaks?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 9 week old puppy keeps peeing/marking inside his crate. How can I stop this. And what could be the reason he is doing this? I have taking him on a lot of potty breaks but keeps marking even if it’s a little bit.

He is so young this is normal. Make sure the crate is only big enough for him to stand up, sit down and turn around. This is going to take time. Keep working with him and being patient. If you feel he is urinating more than a puppy should a veterinary visit may be warranted and a urinalysis to check for an infection. There are congenital issues dogs can have with these symptoms but being he is 9 weeks of age I would give it a little more time. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach
