Puppy fever after distemper shot. Should I continue booster shots?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Labrador | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 8 days old | 8 lbs

My puppy just had her first shot for canine distemper today. She had a slight fever in the evening right after the shot. Should i be worried? Because I had a GSD puppy who died after her booster shot for canine distemper at around 4 months age. Please advice whether I should go for booster shots with my new puppy. Thanks!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Possible side effects after vaccines include pain at the injection site, lethargy, diarrhea, inappetence and general discomfort. This should subside within 1-2 days. If it does not improve or it worsens, have Luns evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, Luns will likely start feeling better shortly. I do recommend going for the booster vaccine. Good luck and best wishes!
