Could my dog's red, squishy skin bump be an infection or growth?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 12 years and 6 months old | 20 lbs

got told by two vets that this is just a bump. it is fixed to the skin, kind of squishy but firm. it seems to be painless to him and it has been slow growing for years. it just turned red not too long ago. bear has a skin infection on his stomach that has skin red too right now. what could this be? looking for a third opinion

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be a benign or malignant growth. This could even be an infection. This cannot be completely assessed just by looking at pictures and usually requires sampling such as fine needle aspiration to determine its origin. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and have a good day!
