My puppy ate kitten food and is throwing up. What should I do?

My puppy ate a can of kitten food that I had set out while I was getting my kitten from hiding, and now my puppy is throwing up. How can I help her stop vomiting? She’s thrown up 3 times. She weighs about 7 lbs now.

There is nothing you can give her at home to stop the vomiting. At most, you can withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water every couple hours. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount if there is no vomiting. The other option would be to have her seen by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER tonight. Either may administer medication via injection to control vomiting.
