My senior dog is listless and struggles to climb. What can help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 12 years and 6 months old | 70 lbs

My dog is a 12 year old Labrador who has been quite listless, won’t hold her head up and has trouble climbing onto things. Blood tests have come back clear. She was on ant inflammatory meds which seemed to help.

Aging and pain due to issues such as arthritis can sometimes make it hard for a dog to climb on things and move around. If anti-inflammatory meds were helping, and your vet ruled out any other health issues, getting Ruby on a joint supplement along with a longer-term pain med may help make things more comfortable for her and increase her mobility.
