My dog has a wart. Is it contagious? Will it go away on its own?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 55 lbs

Scooby has been having this little wart like thing for about a month now, from what I’ve been able to notice it doesn’t seem like it’s bothering him and he hasn’t passed it on to any other dog he’s come in contact with. Do I need medicine for it to go away? What needs to be done about it? Is it contagious?

It does look like a papilloma (wart). It should go away on its own within 3 months as the immune system learns and starts to fight it off. If it gets much bigger, starts bleeding, or doesn't go away, it should be evaluated by a vet.
