Is my kitten's fast abdominal breathing normal after URI antibiotics?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 11 days old | 2 lbs

I just brought my kitten to the vet because she had an URI and they gave us antibiotics. She seems to be breathing kinda fast and it looks like she’s flexing her abdominal area. Thoughts??

That sounds a bit concerning... If she is eating and drinking and acting pretty normal I guess I would give a few days for the antibiotics to kick in. If she is not eating or acting normally (like this breathing pattern is new) then you should get her back tot he vet for a follow-up. X-rays may be needed to check for pneumonia or a diaphragmatic hernia. You know her best so if you are worried go with your gut instinct.
