My dog has a raw-looking bump on his foot, but isn't hurting. Vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

just discovered this on my 4 yr old shih tzu. He isn’t acting like he is hurt but he has a raw looking bump on his foot. Any clue as to what it could be? Should I take him to the vet? Picture should be attached. Thank you!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. I do recommend that he sees a veterinarian. The bump looks very raw. He may need an antibiotic or a topical cleansing solution to help it heal. He could have a small cut that has gotten infected or even have a mass that has grown there. Do not let him lick the area. Place an E-collar on him if necessary. I hope this information helps!

It's hard to tell from the pictures if there is a mass or if it is a hot spot. I would recommend having him checked out by a vet to determine what is going on and why he is licking it so much. Until you get to the vet, you will need to either cover the area or have him wear an e-collar to prevent licking, which can set in infection and make things much worse.
