My dog's heat bleeding turned brown. Is it normal or an infection?

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 4 months old

Hi my dog came into season 20 days ago and is still bleeding but today it has changed from bright red to brown overnight there is a slight smell but nothing offensive, she is on prednisone but I have stopped for the last 2 days to see if it helps, she is on prednisone for food allergies, she is eating and drinking okay no temperature and is her normal self don't want to take her to the vets if she is okay and it just me worrying. Vaginal discharge can be caused by a number of things. Both the urethra and vaginal openings exit the vaginal/vulvar area so discharge could indicate a problem with the urinary tract or with the reproductive tract. With any strange discharge, it is a good idea to schedule a veterinary appointment to check it out. Unfortunately the possibility of a uterine infection is there. The prednisone she was on may have actually depressed immune system and potentially promote infection. I think it is best to rule out this possibility.
