A kitten has eye gunk, snot, and congestion. Can I get sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

This kitten came but it’s eyes have a lot of like stuff on it like when someone cry’s or like when you have an infection in your eyes you wake up with that and it’s been like not sneezing but throwing like buggers from its nose and it also has like congestion. The cat doesn’t live with me we don’t keep any animals in the house, but im concerned because I wash the cats plate with no gloves but after I make sure I wash my hands 3 times can I get sick?

Hello, sorry to hear about the kitten. It sounds like he may have a an upper respiratory tract infection. These common infections are not transmissible to humans but can affect other pets. I would recommend having the kitten evaluated by your veterinarian as often these infections can improve with medications and nursing care. You may also bring the kitten to a local shelter to have them assess the kitten and care for it if this is a street cat. Please have the kitten seen via any of the above options. Hope this helps and best of luck.
