My puppy has parvo and isn't eating. How do I get her to eat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 5 months and 26 days old | 25 lbs

My puppy is 6 months old and has parvo. She hasn’t ate in three days but I have been giving her SQ fluids and Pedialyte. how do I go about force feeding her and what is the best food to force feed her? I have a syringe but she fights me. Her previous owners tried putting her down and I wouldn’t allow it. Now I’m fighting for her life and have no clue on what all I’m doing. PLEASE HELP US! I gave a photo of miss Athena Marie just for a better understanding of who she is.

I am so sorry to hear about your pup. I would recommend having her hospitalized at the veterinarian. With parvo puppies they often need intravenous fluids if they are very ill as well as injectable medication to help with the nausea and inappetance, and if they are not eating then we often place a tube from the nose into the stomach and do what is called "trickle feeding" which provides small amounts of food with high nutritional value to give them nutrition without filling their tummy up so much they vomit it out. Your dog's best chance is with aggressive veterinary care. At home you could try getting some canned high nutrition food such as Hills A/D and putting it in a blender with water to make a liquid you can then use a syringe (with no needle) to squirt into his mouth, but this may be met with limited success.
