My dog has a dark lump in its ear. Is it a hematoma? Is it urgent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Male | neutered | 42 lbs

My Groodle (1yo) has a dark lump in its ear, just under 1cm diameter. It recently had some gunk which we treated with Apex PMP Ear Suspension, and it cleared up. But it did shake its head a lot and still does a few times a day. From what I've read online this could be a hematoma caused by head shaking. However, it's not on the ear, but just in the ear on the head side. Obviously it would be better if a vet saw it, but my question is, if it is a hematoma, is there any urgency in attending. Thanks

It doesn't look like an hematoma. this lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take him to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.
