My dog has worms in her poop. What are they? Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed

I think my dog, a hound mix, has some sort of worms; last week I noticed little yellow/whitish wormy sluggish type creatures in her poop her caretaker doesn’t want to take her to the vet, saying it could just be from the ground. She hasn’t been showing any other symptoms but the consistency of her poop does look different than normal, it’s more grainy and falls apart easily. So what do you think it could be; should we go the vet?

It's hard for me to tell what is what in your pictures. Small white parasites that resemble grains of rice are often tapeworm segments. Other intestinal worms will be longer and more like types of spaghetti. They are easily treated with OTC dog dewormers. A vet examination and fecal parasite screening should be able to determine what intestinal parasites Izzy might have for more in-depth treatment.
