My dog has diarrhea and won't eat. Could his flea collar be the cause?

my momsxdog Timmy had loose bowels and hasnt eaten were concerned."yet she bought him a flea collar left it on all day till he went to sleep than took it off .Could that have made him ill her taking it off him?? Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | 12 lbs

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question. I'm sorry Timmy isn't doing well. No, it's not likely the flea collar because diarrhea isn't typically a side effect of them. The diarrhea could be caused by a GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body. I can give him a home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
