My bird is sick and can't open one eye. What can I do to help?

Thanks for reaching out about your cockatiel and including photos. Try dabbing the eye with a warm, moist washcloth to remove any dried accumulations. Gently try opening the eyelids to observe any signs of foreign debris (food, feather, etc.). Irrigate slowly with artificial tears or a sterile saline solution. Any signs of wounds, blood or pus, and a veterinarian needs to be seen. If the eye appears normal, it could be help closed due to systemic illness and a veterinarian needs to be seen to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Monitor for food and water intake.
