Why is my spayed female dog bleeding and acting like she's in heat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | spayed | 6 years and 6 months old | 23 lbs

Hi, I have a 7 years of old Corgi. She was 4 years ago. My male dog acts like she comes in heat every 6 months or so and I keep them apart.. I've never noticed small drops of blood till this time because I'm spending more time with them being out of work. Should I be very concerned about this... She's perfectly healthy except the small drop of blood..

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Corky. If she has been spayed, it is worrisome that your male dogs pays attention to her like she is in heat. She also should not be having a bloody vaginal discharge. Rarely, a portion of an ovary can be left behind during the spay surgery. This will cause a dog to go into heat regularly. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian to determine if this is the case or if she has another problem such as a urinary tract infection. I hope this information helps!
