Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor guy! This is likely a hot spot which is sometimes due to an allergy or something of that nature causing him to lick and chew resulting in a secondary infection. This is typically treated with local cleaning, antibiotics and a medication such as prednisone to avoid the licking and chewing and usually will resolve in a week or two. It is very important to avoid any further licking or chewing and you may be able to achieve that by using an e-collar. I recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to confirm this and proceed with therapy accordingly. Have a good night!
