My dog's nose was cut in a fight; should I go to the emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 62 lbs

My dogs got into a fight over a toy and my male cut my female dog Lucky's nose. (They very rarely fight and are currently cuddled up with each other.) Lucky's nose is cute at the slit near her right nostril. I stopped the initial bleeding and cleaned the wound with betadine, but it has started bleeding a little again and I think it is looking worse. Should I take her to the emergency vet or am I being over cautious?

The cut seems fairly superficial and the skin seems healthy at this stage. Soon the bleeding should stop completely. Disinfection can be continued at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any).
