Is it normal for my dog to vomit and not eat 6 days after spay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 6 months and 12 days old | 26 lbs

Hi. My dog was spayed 6 days ago and is vomiting and loss of appetite. Her incision looks fine. Her vomit resembles stomach bile. Is this ok?

Poor Melody! At 6 days after surgery, the vomiting and loss of appetite may be due to an unrelated problem - but to be safe, I would definitely recommend having her seen by your veterinarian. He/she can do blood work or other testing if needed to help determine if this is surgery-related or a separate problem, and get her started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found.
