My dog is throwing up red fluid with flecks. Is this an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Havanese | Male | neutered | 5 years and 6 months old | 14 lbs

My Havanese dog has been moping around most of the day. He threw up some white foamy with clear mucus several time. Now he is throwing up red fluid with some red flecks in it. (3 times). My vet blew me off and said it isn't any thing to worry about. I made an appointment for the morning.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question. Poor Bandit! I am worried that he is throwing up red stuff, and I’m concerned it could be blood. Vomiting blood is a medical emergency. I would take him into another vet immediately since you feel your vet didn’t respond well to your concerns. I hope this helps!
