My active kitten is licking her spay incision. Is it infected?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

We got a new kitten (juniper) about a week ago and she was spayed the day before we got her. She's a very active kitten and we have tried to stop her from licking her incision. We are worried that the incision may be getting infected. Is this picture concerning?

The photo is pixilated but it appears the incision looks red and may have a little gapping. If this is accurate, I recommend to have her examined by her veterinarian today. Make sure she is wearing an elizabethan collar at all times to prevent licking. You may also want to keep her in the bathroom or other small room without tall furniture to keep her activity restricted. Best of luck.
